R2D2 Hash House Harriers
The R2D2 Hash House Harriers was formed in April 2001 to meet the needs of hashers in the Test Valley (Andover area) for a weekly hash. We're still going strong.
Why R2D2?
The hash was formed after the slow demise of the Portway Hash House Harriers, a largely military hash that ran on Wednesday lunchtimes. The Portway is an ancient Roman Road that runs from the old Roman town of Calleva (now known as Silchester, near Tadley in Hampshire) to Dorchester, passing through Andover and Salisbury on its way south. R2 therefore stands for Roman Road. The D2 was added, for some reason, and can mean anything you want it to. The most commonly used words are decidedly dodgy. Hence we are referred to as the Roman Road Decidedly Dodgy Hash House Harriers, or R2D2H3 for short.
What do we do?
Run (non-competitively - honest!) and socialise on a weekly basis in and around Andover. We prefer not to run in the dark so in the winter we run on Saturday mornings at 11.00am. Once the evenings get a bit lighter, we meet on a Thursday night at 7.00pm.
Where do we do it?
Almost without fail from a local pub, typically in and around Andover, but we’ll go anywhere within reason if there's a good run opportunity.
